P-1 Black Overglaze Painting Enamel, 28g
P-1 Black Overglaze Painting Enamel, 28g
P-1 is a black overglaze painting enamel. It comes in dry powder form.
The dry powder form can be mixed with either a water base painting medium (A-1 Klyr-fire) or oil base medium (A-4 Squeegee oil or A-5 Thinning oil).
The mixed P-1 product can then be applied to the work piece with a crow quill pen or a brush.
If using P-1 that has been mixed with an oil, the piece may need to be smoked prior to firing. Dry the piece on top of the kiln, then place the piece into the mouth of the furnace and hold for 5 seconds. The piece is removed for several (5 to 10) seconds then put back into the furnace for a few more seconds (5 to 10). This process is continued until the piece starts to smoke. Continue the process until it appears the smoking has stopped or slowed down considerably. Let the furnace regain its temperature then fire the piece for 1 minute or until the surface has glossed (1450 degrees F.)
If using a crow quill pen to apply the product the smoking process may not be necessary as the amount of oil is so small. It still should be dried on top of the kiln before firing.
If the P-1 dry powder was mixed with a water based medium, the smoking procedure is not necessary. Dry the piece on top of the kiln then fire for 1 minute at 1450 degrees F. or until glossy.
