Furnace Floor Hot Pad
Thompson Enamel Hot Pad/ Furnace Floor Pad
A dual purpose, non-asbestos spun ceramic fibre pad. Use as furnace floor protection to catch spills and add longer life to your furnace floor. Item can be cut with box cutter.
If using inside the furnace as a floor pad, please follow these simple steps before using. This is necessary to avoid the board from catching fire and smoking. Piece may need cutting to fit the dimensions of your furnace floor. Board cuts easily with razor knife.
Step 1: While furnace is off and cool, position the new pad inside.
Step 2: Turn your furnace on high and heat to 1450 degrees F. (During this time it is important to keep your furnace door closed.) The pad contains an organic binder which needs to burn out. This could cause a slight odour, but is harmless. If you open the door too soon during this process, the pad will more than likely flame up and smoke. Keeping the door closed will prevent this from happening. This process takes approximately an hour until your kiln is completely heated up to enamelling temperatures.
If used as a hot pad outside the furnace, it may develop some slight scorching if not “burned out” as mentioned in STEP 2 above. Hot pads should only be used on non-combustible surfaces. Do not use this product on the HP-4 (hot plate kiln) element surface.
